Benefits of Apartments for Seniors Only

As my parents get older, we've been having more and more talks about their living arrangements. They're both in their early seventies now, and are relatively healthy. While they still live on their own, we all know this setup won't last much longer. They simply live too far out of town and have to go through quite a bit of hassle to acquire even the most basic supplies, such as groceries. After discussing their wants and needs at length, we've decided that it would be best to sell the family home and start looking at apartments for seniors.

We believe that apartments for seniors would provide the best environment for my parents. From what we've read during our preliminary research, there are many benefits associated with living in this type of apartment. For one thing, apartments for seniors are usually situated in prime locations that provide easy access to shopping, transportation, and activities. This is of course one of the main concerns that my parents currently have. They plan on giving up their cars soon, so they'll want to be near the buses and trains that can take them wherever they want to go. Also, they don't want to have to go very far just to get groceries and other necessities, so they'll appreciate having stores nearby.

Another benefit of apartments for seniors is that the units are generally offered at below market value for comparable units in non-age restricted buildings. This is due to a variety of reasons, including government subsidies, and goes a long way towards making things very affordable. My parents are on a fixed income, which means they have to pay careful attention to their budget. Getting a low-cost apartment will go a long way towards stretching their dollars.

A third attraction for my parents is that living in one of these apartments for seniors will give them access to a whole new group of friends. They'll be around other retirees who might have similar interests, and they'll be able to go to the various events that the apartment complexes host, such as Bridge Night or Movie Night. These activities will certainly help alleviate some of the boredom that usually afflicts retired folks who can't afford to travel around the world.

All in all, we really like what we've read about positive lifestyle changes apartments for seniors can provide. My parents will be able to have an affordable home without worrying about any of the maintenance chores that they're getting too old to attend to, and they'll be able to meet some like-minded friends to spend quality time with. Best of all, they can keep their independence and continue to lead active lives in their golden years. We're going to contact a real estate agent today so we can start looking at units soon.
